Anastasia: A Refined Script Font for Handmade Labels & Printables

It started with a candle label—just one. I’d just poured my first small batch of lavender-vanilla soy candles, and the blank white kraft sticker felt too quiet. I opened my design software, scrolled past the usual suspects, and there it was: Anastasia. Not flashy. Not overly ornate. Just quietly confident—a script font that breathed elegance without shouting.

Anastasia is a premium script typeface from Script Amp, crafted with intention. Its core glyphs balance rhythm and grace, while its swashes—especially the initial and terminal forms—add subtle movement and personality. It’s not a handwriting font pretending to be spontaneous; it’s a refined calligraphy typeface, carefully shaped to feel both intentional and effortless. The mood? Warm, elevated, quietly romantic—like handwritten notes from someone who values detail and sincerity.

I tested it first on a 2-inch round sticker for that lavender-vanilla candle. At that size, I used only the clean core glyphs—no swashes—and the legibility held beautifully. The letterforms have just enough contrast and open counters to stay crisp when printed on matte sticker paper or cut with my Cricut Maker. Later, for a wedding welcome board mockup, I switched to the swash initials—those elegant flourishes on the “W” in “Welcome” added a soft, celebratory lift without overwhelming the layout.

What makes Anastasia especially useful for makers is how thoughtfully it bridges display and function. It shines in short-form applications: product names (“Honeycomb Soy Candle”), boutique tags (“Hand-poured • Small Batch”), greeting card headlines (“You’re Invited”), planner page headers (“Monthly Intentions”), or printable wall art quotes (“Breathe Deeply”). It’s not designed for body text—but that’s exactly why it works so well for handmade goods. Customers don’t read your candle label like a novel; they absorb tone, trust, and care in under three seconds. Anastasia delivers all three.

I’ve used it across real production workflows:

Readability matters—especially when cutting vinyl or printing tiny tags. Here’s what I learned: avoid using swashes below 14pt in digital mockups, and skip them entirely for anything smaller than 1" in physical output. The core alphabet remains highly legible down to 10pt on labels or packaging, as long as contrast is strong (e.g., dark ink on light kraft). For seasonal designs—think holiday gift tags or spring farmer’s market signs—I often pair Anastasia with a sturdy, warm sans serif (like Poppins Regular) for dates, locations, or fine print. That contrast gives warmth and clarity in equal measure.

Font pairing isn’t just aesthetic—it’s functional. When designing shop branding, I use Anastasia for the logo or shop name, then a neutral sans for website menus, social bios, and policy pages. That combination builds cohesion without sacrificing usability. For invitation suites, I’ll sometimes layer Anastasia with a simple serif (like Cormorant Garamond) for addresses or RSVP details—creating visual rhythm between flourish and formality.

Before using Anastasia commercially—whether on physical products, digital templates, or SVG files—I always double-check the license. Script Amp fonts include full commercial rights, but it’s worth confirming included features: OpenType support, alternate characters, standard ligatures, and multilingual glyphs (including accented characters common in names and European languages). I’ve used the stylistic alternates to swap out a slightly more upright “a” for cleaner alignment on narrow labels, and the terminal swashes to finish off a “thank you” sticker with a graceful exit.

The file formats matter in practice too. Having both OTF and TTF means compatibility across platforms—Cricut Design Space accepts OTF smoothly, while some older embroidery software prefers TTF. And because Anastasia is a single-weight script font (not a variable or multi-style family), I treat it as a focused design asset—not an all-in-one solution, but a precise tool for moments that need distinction.

It’s not magic. But when you’re hand-labeling fifty jars, prepping a dozen wedding invites, or building a cohesive digital printable collection, having a script font that feels intentional—not trendy, not generic—makes the work feel more grounded. Anastasia doesn’t distract. It elevates. It says “this was made with care,” even before the customer smells the candle or opens the card.

Whether you're sketching ideas on paper or placing final kerning in Illustrator, this typeface meets you where you are: in the quiet, deliberate space between craft and commerce. It’s the kind of font that makes you pause—not because it’s complicated, but because it fits so naturally into the things you make.
